Short answer
- You need it on Annapurna and Langtang treks, not on Everest.
- It costs NPR 2,000 for a foreign adult, NPR 1,000 for SAARC.
- Buy it at the Tourism Board in Kathmandu or Pokhara.
The Trekkers’ Information Management System card records who is on which trail. Since 2023 the Everest side uses its own municipality fee instead, but Annapurna and Langtang checkpoints still ask for TIMS.
Licensed guides and agencies usually arrange it for you; independent trekkers buy it at the Tourism Board with two passport photos.
