How we check a number.

Every fee, fare and price on this site went through the same five steps. This page is the standard we hold ourselves to, so you can hold us to it too.

What counts as checked.

A figure is checked when

  • We hold a receipt, a dated notice or a written quote for it
  • It was paid or confirmed in the last six months
  • A second source agrees, or we say that none does
  • The date we checked it is on the page

Paid, photographed or confirmed in writing

We don’t copy prices from other websites or from agency brochures. A figure appears here only when one of us, or a reader, paid it and kept the receipt, photographed the notice at the counter, or got the price in writing from the office that charges it.

Dated, always

Prices in Nepal move with the season, the exchange rate and the year’s budget. Every figure carries the date we last checked it. After six months it is flagged for review, and the page tells you so before we have re-checked it.

When sources disagree

Two receipts from the same counter sometimes show different amounts. We publish both, mark the figure as contested, and keep asking until one is confirmed. We never average them.

General guidance is marked

Some advice can’t be checked against a receipt: how much cash to carry, when to book a flight. We still write it, but we label it as general guidance and keep figures out of it.

What the labels on a figure mean

  • VerifiedMatched to a receipt, a dated notice or a written quote from the last six months.
  • Review dueLast confirmed more than six months ago. Treat it as a guide until we re-check it.
  • ContestedTwo sources disagree. We show both and keep asking; we never average them.
  • CorrectedIt was wrong and we fixed it. The old figure is listed in Corrections.
  • General guidanceAdvice that can’t be checked against a receipt, so it carries no figures.

Guides

One question, answered and kept current. Each guide shows the date it was last checked and its earlier versions.

Articles

Reporting from the trail, with a date and a byline. An article’s figures are as of that date; the guides carry today’s.

Evidence

The proof: receipts, tickets, price boards, notices and photos, typed out, dated and linked to the pages they support.

Changelog and Corrections

The Changelog lists prices that moved in the real world. Corrections lists where we were wrong, and who told us.

Five steps, every figure.

Each step leaves a trace you can follow: the receipt, the date, the second source, the page, and the next check.

  1. 01CollectOne of us or a reader pays, photographs the notice, or gets the price in writing.
  2. 02DateWe log where and when it was paid, and who sent it, before anything else.
  3. 03Cross-checkA second receipt, the office that charges it, or both. If they disagree, it is contested.
  4. 04PublishThe figure goes on its guide page with the receipt, the date and a status badge.
  5. 05Re-checkSix months on, the page flags itself as review due until we check it again.
