Short answer
- Every foreign trekker in the Everest region pays this, guided or not.
- It costs NPR 3,000 for a foreign adult. Keep the ticket until you leave the park.
- Buy it in Kathmandu or at Monjo. Cash only, in rupees.
Every foreign trekker entering the park pays this, guided or not. The common mistake is buying it in Kathmandu and then losing the ticket on the trail: the rangers at Monjo won’t take a photo of it, and you pay again.
The office opens at ten and shuts for lunch at one. In October the queue is mostly guides holding six passports each, so arrive early or buy it at the gate. The Monjo counter is open from dawn to dusk and has never run out of tickets in our checks.
