Short answer
- Every trekker in the Annapurna region needs it, with a TIMS card.
- It costs NPR 3,000 for a foreign adult and NPR 1,000 for SAARC.
- Buy it in Kathmandu or Pokhara; checkpoints charge double.
The Annapurna Conservation Area Project charges this entry fee and spends it on trail maintenance, rubbish collection and village schools. Checkpoints at Besisahar, Birethanti and Ghandruk ask to see it.
Our SAARC figure was wrong until September: a reader in Pokhara sent the receipt that corrected it.
