In April 2023 the Khumbu municipality stopped accepting TIMS cards and started charging its own fee. Two years on, agencies in Thamel still sell TIMS cards to Everest trekkers who don’t need them.
Where it changed
On the Everest side, the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu rural municipality fee of NPR 2,000 replaced the TIMS card. Rangers at Monjo ask for that and the park permit, not TIMS.

NPR 2,000
Needed on Annapurna and Langtang. Not needed on the Everest side since April 2023.
Where you still need it
Annapurna and Langtang checkpoints still log TIMS cards. On the Annapurna Circuit you show it at Besisahar, Chame and Manang, with your ACAP permit.

What it costs
NPR 2,000 for a foreign adult and NPR 1,000 for SAARC nationals, from the Tourism Board in Kathmandu or Pokhara.
“We still sell a few to people going to Everest. They ask for it.”
What to do
- 01Everest: skip TIMS; pay the Khumbu fee at Lukla.
- 02Annapurna and Langtang: buy TIMS with your park permit.
- 03Buy both in Kathmandu or Pokhara; checkpoints charge more.
